Project Overview
VSCO is a photography mobile app for iOS andAndroid. The VSCO app allows users to capture photos in the app and edit them, using preset filters and editing tools.
With the evolution in social media focusing more on video and story telling VSCO found themselves in a position where they needed to quickly evolve their platform to incorporate video storytelling. Their solution was to build a new feature set called Montage.
In addition, Mobile apps like VSCO can potentially weigh heavily on mobile device’s CPU, memory and other key functions and at the time there was zero visibility to these indicators.
Our team was brought in to boost the development of this new feature set as well as instrument and implement an app performance data pipeline to measure device and app performance. My focus was to prioritize the most impactful and insightful app performance data that would help to identify where improvements needed to be made. As a result, our team was able to successfully instrument several key data metrics now used for measuring app performance for this very device intensive mobile application.
My Responsibilities
- As a Solution owner for our development team I Led engineering and UX teams to provide the input needed to guide the product development effort.
- Facilitated product development workshops focused on feature development and Slalom’s Product Engineering MethodologyEstablished the product requirements and roadmap priorities
- Led discovery, implementation, and enhancement phases of app performance data pipeline product developmentLed the product development for Montage feature set for our team
Results
- As a result, our team was able to successfully instrument several key data metrics now used for measuring app performance for this very device intensive mobile application.
- With the development of the new Montage feature set, my focus was on building and refining the features for our team as well as testing and collaborating with the development team and product team to identify areas of improvement and enhancement.
- My team built key features and accelerated the development effort that allowed VSCO to successfully launch Montage in March 2020 to over 40 million users and 2 million subscribers.
